The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority, Home Department observed the International Day of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) on October 7, 2024 at Capital Convention Hall. Themed ‘Empowering the next generation for a resilient future’, the event was graced by Nyusietho Nyuthe, Advisor NSDMA, and NRE.
The Joint CEO NSDMA, Johnny Ruangmei gave the keynote address while the Advisor NSDMA spoke on the importance and significance of DRR day. Keren Rose, Asst. Manager (Media and PR), NSDMA gave the vote of thanks, while the brief inaugural session was chaired by Widunbiliu, APD, NSDMA, Home Department.
More than 100 students from five colleges, Kohima Science College, Kohima College, Baptist College, St. Joseph’s College, and Don Bosco College, participated in the program. Reel-making competitions, Debate competitions, and Extempore competitions marked the day.

In the debate held under the theme, ‘Is Nagaland adequately preparing for a resilient era?’, the prize was taken by the Opposition team comprising of students from all the five colleges.
The best debater was awarded to Kepozo Kapuh of St. Joseph’s College and the second was bagged by Kuvelu Lohe of Kohima Science College. In the extempore speech, the first position was bagged by Moe H. Konyak from Kohima Science College while the second position was bagged by Anizo Krose of St. Joseph’s College. In the reels making competition, the first prize was won by Baptist college, the second achieved by Kohima College and the third was bagged by Kohima Science College, informed a press release by the NSDMA, Home Department.
