International Day of Person with Disabilities held at Phek

International Day Of Person With Disabilities was observed on December 3 at DC’s Conference Hall, Phek under the theme “Fostering Disability inclusive Societies for Advancing Social Progress”, organised by Office of the State Commissioner for Person with Disabilities, Department of Social Welfare, Nagaland in collaboration with District Administration /disabled people’s organisation.

Deputy Commissioner of Phek, Rhosietho Nguori, NCS in his keynote address, said that disability should not be treated as a burden, but God’s plan. He advised the gathering not to be a judgemental towards differently able individuals but to treat them equally by providing them equal platform.

Guest speaker Dr. Temsulong Pongener, Psychiatrist District Hospital, Phek stated that many individuals experience not only physical disability but also face discrimination related to mental health issue, and stressed that disability shouldn’t be seen as an individual struggle but as a collective responsibility requiring community support. He further encouraged everyone to move beyond sympathy and respect and provide a safe space to meet the social and emotional needs of person with disabilities.

The program was chaired by Imnasenla Walling NCS, EAC Phek, Special appearance by Niekhoyi Rhakho and vote of thanks was given by Huvesiyi Soho Accountant, DC’s office Phek.

In an another programme the District Education Mission Society Samakra Shiksha Phek observed  World Disability Day at Children’s park 5th NAP, Phek on 3rd December 2025 under the theme, “Fostering disability Inclusion Societies for Social Progress”.

Speaking on the occasion as special guest, Rentsamo Kikon DEO Phek, highlighted and said that the progress of societies could be successfully achieved only when accessibilities support of those disabled persons will be given accordingly.

DEO therefore, encouraged the gathering to renew our commitment to facilitate disabled persons in whatever possible ways and means.

Lhiwe-u  IE RP, EBRC Pfutsero chaired the program. Khrote U  Lasushe NIPUN Barat Coordinator offered invocation prayer. Amongla. L District IE Coordinator, spoke vote of thanks.
