The International Women’s Day celebration was held on March 7 at the I.Ihoshe Kinimi Hall, Nagaland University, Lumami. The programme was organized by Nagaland University Students Union (Lumami) under the theme “Give to Gain,” inspired by the quote of Michelle Obama, “No one will do it for you, so lift as you climb”, informed a press release.
The highlight of the programme was the address by the guest speaker, Angunuo, Deputy Registrar (Finance), Nagaland University. In her speech, she emphasized that women play vital roles as entrepreneurs, leaders, and financial managers, and that educating women uplifts entire generations. She stated that gender equality should not be seen as a struggle between men and women but as a shared responsibility, encouraging men to support women and challenge societal stereotypes. She concluded by saying that when women rise, the world rises with them.
The programme also featured creative presentations such as “Shero of Lens” and “Bro Code: A Message of Appreciation,” which conveyed messages of respect and appreciation for women. An Award Fiesta, conducted by B. Liken Phom, Vice President of NUSU (L), recognized and celebrated the achievements and contributions of women.

The programme began with an invocation by Pranay Prem Sharma from the Music Team (EUNU), followed by a special segment titled “Heralding Women’s Day” presented by Chumpo Kings. The welcome address was delivered by Kivini H. Kinimi, Women Coordinator of NUSU (L), who highlighted the importance of celebrating women’s achievements and contributions to society.
The event also featured a solo musical rendition by Phuton Konyak from the Department of Geography, adding a cultural touch to the celebration. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Tiakumla, Magazine Secretary NUSU(L), followed by a benediction by Thsazibi Y. Sangtam.
