Patkai Christian College (Autonomous) observed International Women’s Day on Friday with Justice S Hukato Swu, Retired judge of Gauhat High Court and Commissioner of Nagaland State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NSCDRC) as the speaker of the event. The programme was organised by the Women Cell and Gender Champions at Bundrock Chapel, PCC.

In his address, Justice Swu appreciated the efforts of women for their contributions to the society. He said that compared to other societies, the Naga society gives women ‘almost’ all the rights except in decision making. Noting how women were considered insignificant without men in the earlier times, he said that with progress in the society, many women are coming out of their comfort zones.

Justice Swu encouraged women to be outspoken and fight for their rights. He also advised women to utilise the Women’s Commission to address their issues.

Earlier the event was chaired by Dr Yanbeni Kikon, blessings were invoked by Avono Iralu and welcome note was delivered by Dr Jyoti Roy. Vote of thanks from Dr Razoukhrulu curhah, closing prayer pronounced by Rev Vichukhu Ngukha.
