The International Women’s day was observed in Kiphire on March 7, under the theme “Invest in women: accelerate progress”, informed DIPR. Chief Judicial Magistrate Kiphire, Holika Sukhalu, NJS attended the event as the Special Guest. The programme was organised by District Administration Kiphire, District Hub for Women Empowerment, Sakhi – One Stop Centre in convergence with Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission, Kiphire.
The Special Guest said that international women’s day is being observed worldwide to address the problems and rights of womenfolk, and to promote gender equity towards progress and fair treatment in all walks of life. She said that in the former days, women were deprived of their rights and opportunities, however at the present age; women are faring well in various fields. And she said that occasion is being observed with a focus to preserve the little progress women have achieved.

The special guest also advised the Students, to assist and educate the illiterate parents and grandparents as well, and enable them to focus beyond the household environment. ”An economic status of family is always better when a woman is educated. And educated women will have resources with her to take care of family whether it is school work, hospital, household or legal works.” Sukhalu added. She also informed on provision given by law on equal opportunities for all, irrespective of gender and encouraged everyone to avail that opportunities.
The other highlights of the programme included singing, tug of war and arm wrestling organised to mark the special occasion.
Earlier, a welcome address was delivered by EAC Kiphire, Chubamongla while Tsosing, Psycho Social Counsellor, OSC led the program. Vote of thanks was proposed by Rolila S. Sangtam, CA , OSC, and invocation by woman pastor SBAK NM, Holika K. Swu.
