International Women’s Day celebrated in Noklak

International Women’s Day was celebrated in Noklak on March 7 on  the theme “Rights, Justice, Action.” The programme was organized by SANKALP Mission Shakti and the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) in collaboration with Sakhi–One Stop Centre and Mission Vatsalya, Noklak, under the Department of Social Welfare.

During the event, women who have rendered  service to society in various fields were acknowledged and felicitated.

P Kongniu of Noklak Village, a dedicated social worker and leader, was recognized for her significant contributions to education, child welfare, and women’s empowerment. Holding a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree, she has served as Hostel Warden at KGBV Hostel from 2013 to 2017, Superintendent of Adora Children Home, Noklak (2017–present), and Sunday School teacher at NTBC since 2017. She also served as President of KMH Unit, Noklak Town from 2019 to 2025. Her selfless service and leadership were acknowledged as inspiring and uplifting for the community.

Thingpia, Anganwadi Worker of Noklak Town was recognized for her outstanding dedication and exceptional service in promoting the holistic development of children and ensuring the health of mothers in the community. Her meticulous maintenance of records and timely service delivery have significantly contributed to the well-being of the community.

L Thingpio Asha of New Peshu was also recognized for her sincere and active service. Her dedication has positively impacted the welfare of children and mothers in the area through effective implementation of health and nutrition programmes.

Speaking on the occasion, Legal Case Worker of Sakhi–OSC, Chaang C, highlighted the significance of the theme and stated that International Women’s Day originated due to rising gender-based discrimination in society. She noted that progress has been made in gender equality in areas such as political representation and education, stereotypes still persist, she added.  She encouraged women to know their rights and justice while also respecting customary laws.

Vein M from the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) spoke about women empowerment initiatives and schemes available in the district such as Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP), as well as healthcare benefits available for new mothers.

Sakhi–OSC Centre Administrator, S. Niamkoi, briefed the gathering on the safety of women and children. She also informed about the cases registered in the district and emphasized the importance of knowing one’s rights.

Legal-cum-Probation Officer of the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Lashika Aye, highlighted the role of DCPU in protecting the rights of children at the district level and stressed the importance of the right to education.

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Shing B, Gender Specialist, DHEW Noklak. Invocation was pronounced by Thingpia, Associate Pastor (Women), BCT. The keynote address was delivered by Ajongla Temjen, DPO & DNO, Mission Shakti. A special number was presented by KMH Unit, Noklak Village, while the programme concluded with a benediction by Mass.
