International Women’s Day was observed at the Aor Kilem Conference Hall, Mokokchung, on March 8 under the global theme “Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls.” The programme was organized by SANKALP: District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) under Mission Shakti, Mokokchung, in collaboration with Watsu Mungdang.
The programme was chaired by Nichet Jamir, who welcomed the gathering and highlighted the significance of International Women’s Day as a platform to recognise the contributions of women and renew commitment towards gender equality and empowerment.
The invocation was pronounced by Nungshinaro, Associate Pastor (Women), Mokokchung Compound, who prayed for the success of the programme and the continued progress and empowerment of women.
Moamenla Longkumer, District Mission Coordinator, District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Mokokchung, delivered an introduction to Mission Shakti, explaining the objectives and initiatives of the mission. She highlighted the government’s efforts to strengthen mechanisms for the safety, security and empowerment of women through integrated support systems at the district level.

The programme also featured sharing sessions by Dr. Sentirenla Ozukum of Sen-Bakes and Asenla, founder of First Rain Foundation, who shared their experiences and perspectives on women’s empowerment, entrepreneurship and the importance of community support.
The theme address was delivered by Kathyinla Jamir, EAC, Aghunato, who spoke on the theme “Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls.” She emphasised the importance of collective action in ensuring equal rights and justice for women and girls and encouraged participants to continue advocating for inclusive opportunities and supportive environments.
A recreational segment was presented by the Alempang Watsu Unit.
Earlier, a vote of thanks was delivered by Tianaro Jamir, President of Watsu Mungdang, who expressed appreciation to the organisers, speakers and participants for their contributions to the programme. The event witnessed the participation of women leaders and community members.
