International workshop on women’s voices held at Nagaland University

An International Workshop on Women’s Voices in collaboration with Centre for Women’s Development Studies and Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung, Germany was organised during November 6-7 in the Department of English, Nagaland University. The workshop was sponsored by Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung, Germany. Ten women each from Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Nagaland participated in the workshop. An exhibition of their handicraft products and books was also held.

Research scholars and teachers of Dept. of English also participated in the said workshop. Prominent participants were Prof. N. Manimekalai, Director, Centre for Women’s Development Studies, New Delhi, Prof. Nitha N., CWDS, Patricia Mukhim from Meghalaya, Monalisa Changkija, Sano Vamuzo, Prof. Rosemary Dzuvichu from Nagaland, Renu Koyu, R. Chai, and Jarjum G Ete from Arunachal Pradesh, Melissa Fernandes, Goa, and Neha Naqvi, RLS, South Asia.

The participants deliberated on the women’s rights, customary laws and issues on women’s age-old sufferings and ways to solve their problems. Stories of resistance, change and solidarity were narrated, debated and resolutions as per Indian laws were contrived. It is also discussed about PIL and solutions as per laws where customary laws failed.
