Israel-HamasWar: Hamas releases two hostages

On Monday, Al-Qassam, the Hamas’ military wing, released two elderly women Nurit Cooper and Yochved Lifshitzbeing freed after two-weeks of captivity. The news was confirmed by the International Committee of the Red Cross.

In the video clip released by Hamas, both hostages Nurit Cooper and Yocheved Lifshitz were seen being handed over to the Red Cross.The two freed hostages, 85-year-old Yocheved Lifshitz and 79-year-old Nurit Cooper, were immediately ferried in a helicopter to a hospital in Tel Aviv, according to the Associated Press.

Cooper and Lifshitz, along with their husbands, were captured from their homes in the kibbutz of Nir Oz near the Gaza border during Hamas’ October 7 rampage into southern Israeli communities. Their husbands, ages 83 and 84, were not released.

In the video, the two women can be seen walking to a vehicle where the Hamas fighter handed them over to a person waiting for them in a Red Cross vest. Before she walked ahead, Lifshitz turned and shaked the hand of the gunman, who was also heard greeting ‘Shalom’ to her.

The recent release comes days after an American mother-daughter duo were also released from captivity.
