The Embassy of Israel in India has expressed shock and sadness after an Indian national was killed and two were injured in a ‘cowardly terror attack’ at Margaliot, Israel. It claimed that Monday’s attack was carried out by Hezbollah, a Shia militant group based in Lebanon that has close ties with the Hamas.

The deceased as well as the injured all hail from the State of Kerala and worked in a farm near Israel’s northern border with Lebanon, reports said.

The Israeli Embassy extended its condolences to the families of the bereaved and those of the injured and assured that the country “will be there to support the families and offer them assistance.”

“Our countries, who are sadly well versed in civilian loss, stand united in hopes of a speedy recovery for the injured and solace for the family of the bereaved,” the statement also said.

The Embassy further said that Israel regards equally all nationals, Israeli or foreign, who are injured or killed due to terrorism and guaranteed that the injured are being given the best treatment by Israeli Medical institutions.

Indian labour groups, CPI (M) in particular, have been vocal against sending Indian workers to the war afflicted Israel. In November 2023, its MP Binoy Visman wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi after it was reported that 1,00,000 workers were to be sent from India to Israel to replace the Palestinian workers.

“Using the destitution of fellow citizens to send them in a country which is at a deadly war is shameful, to say the least,” Visman had written.
