Punjab: Singh defeats 26 candidates to become MP

31-year-old radical Sikh preacher and pro-Khalistan leader, Amritpal Singh has won the Lok Sabha seat of Khadoor Sahib in Punjab by a margin of 1,97,120 votes. Singh is presently at Dibrugarh Central Jail in Assam for several criminal charges under the National Security Act including spreading disharmony, attempted murder, attacking police and obstruction to law enforcement.

He was arrested on 23rd April 2023 after a massive manhunt that lasted for over a month until he was surrounded at a Gurudwara in Rode Village in Punjab. He was immediately taken to Dibrugarh where nine of his Waris Punjab De associates were also jailed.

Amritpal Singh contested the Parliamentary election as an independent candidate. There were 27 candidates in the fray including from the Indian National Congress (INC), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Aam Admi Party (AAP).
