Minister of External Affairs, Dr S Jaishankar arrived in Kathmandu, Nepal on Thursday to participate in the 7th meeting of the India-Nepal Joint Commission. Dr Jaishankar on the two-day visit on the invitation of Nepal’s Foreign Minister NP Saud for co-chairing the Joint Commission.

He was received by Saud on arrival in Kathmandu, after which the Dr Jaishankar made courtesy calls to President Ramchandra Paudel and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’.

In a post of X, Nepal’s Foreign Minister announced that the two neighbouring countries held a bilateral meeting where the delegations led by the ministers “discussed various aspects of Nepal-India relations, under the thematic areas of economic relations, connectivity, trade & transit, power and water resources, education and culture and political matters among others.”

Later, the ministers co-chaired the India-Nepal Joint Commission. The Commission was established in 1987 and provides a platform for both ministers to review all aspects of the bilateral partnership.

Earlier, the Ministry of External Affairs had in its press release stated that Nepal is a priority partner of India under its Neighbourhood First policy and Dr Jaishankar’s visit is in “keeping with the tradition of high level exchanges between two close and friendly neighbours.”
