The Jalukie Battalion Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR(N) conducted awareness campaign on Waste Management and disposal at Ngwalwa village in Peren district, Nagaland on Saturday. The Programme was held under the theme ‘Swachha Bharat Abhiyan’ with the objective to spread awareness on preservation and promotion of healthy and clean environment.
The Assam Rifles personnel took an initiative to reach out to youth and villagers and educate them on Waste Management and Disposal and carried out a series of lectures. Villagers and youth were briefed about how Government of India is accelerating the efforts to achieve universal sanitation coverage and to put the focus on sanitation.
The army personnel also informed the villagers about solid and liquid waste management in the area, how clean surroundings can add up to lessening diseases. Other topics included planting trees at individual level, reducing usage of fossil fuels, adopting greener methods of transport to reduce overall emission and carbon footprints and ways to tackle global warming.
All the attendees, chairmen and members of the Village Council expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Assam Rifles for their efforts towards initiatives towards sustainable development and other charitable work in helping out the poor and needy people in remote areas.
