Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh Pakhwada 2025 concludes with Tribal Walkathon

As part of the concluding events of the Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh Pakhwada 2025, a Tribal Walkathon was conducted on November 15, starting from the Civil Secretariat and culminating at the NLA Junction. The programme was organised by the Tribal Research Institute, Nagaland, under the Department of Tribal Affairs, in honour of the 150th birth anniversary of tribal leader Birsa Munda.

Guest of Honour, H Tovihoto Ayemi, MLA and Advisor for Tribal Affairs & Election, highlighted the significance of this year’s observance as it marks Birsa Munda’s 150th birth anniversary. He acknowledged the longstanding contributions of tribal communities to the nation through culture, art, music, and craftsmanship. He encouraged all to unite for the progress of the state and the nation.

In her welcome remarks, Secretary, Tribal Affairs Department, Anjelina Tajen, IAS emphasized that the programme was organised to honour the spirit of the Janjatiya community and to pay tribute to Birsa Munda, whose role in nation-building is widely recognised. She noted that the event celebrates rich traditions and vibrant culture, while calling for collective efforts toward tribal empowerment. She urged everyone to uphold Birsa Munda’s values of freedom, equality, and justice.

Around 450-500 from 18 tribes of Nagaland participated in the Walkathon.

Following the Walkathon, a Tribal Cuisine Competition and an Exhibition of Tribal Paintings were organised at the DUDA Conference Hall, Kohima. The cuisines were judged by Asano Angami, Senior Chef at Niathu Group, and Chenti Phom.

The exhibition featured artworks by local artists, highlighting diverse indigenous themes.

Joint Secretary, Tribal Affairs Department, TL Kiusumong Tikhir, NCS, handed over the prize to the winners of the Cuisine competition. Khiamniungan tribe secured first place in the cuisine competition, while the Phom and Konyak tribes took the first and second runner-up positions respectively.
