Lanu Toy, an electrical engineer who is known for his pivotal role in electrical power sector not only in Nagaland but in the whole of northeast, was honoured by Japanese multinational electronics company, Toshiba.
On 11th October 2023, during his visit to Japan, Er Lanu Toy had the privilege to meet Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions President and CEO Tadasu Yotsuyanagi, who paid tribute to Toy’s substantial contributions thus far and conveyed Toshiba’s eagerness to continue benefiting India through its technological prowess.

The company informed that at the meet, Yotsuyanagi also affirmed Toshiba’s significant role in supplying 24 sets of hydropower turbines and 34 generators in India since 1965, a testament to Toshiba’s impact on India’s hydropower generation sector.
Er Lanu Toy reflected on his visit to the country in 1961 for a six-month training program at Toshiba. He said that this program focused on the intricacies of the Toshiba 9MW turbine power generation unit, a cornerstone of the Umiam Stage-I Hydroelectric Power Project. Toy emphasized how the knowledge and expertise he gained, coupled with an invaluable understanding of Japanese work ethic and culture, formed the bedrock of his technological achievements.
