26 years old Japuno Zinyü’s journey into the world of fashion began with a three-year course at Global Open University, Dimapur. She then interned at Fabric Plus in Guwahati and later worked with an international designer in Kolkata. Returning to Kohima, she started small, gradually gaining recognition for her work. A turning point came when a regular client asked her to customize a wedding dress. This experience revealed her true passion: creating dream wedding dresses for brides on their special day.
Discovering her niche
Japuno initially did not envisioned specializing in wedding dresses. However, after creating her first masterpiece and witnessing the joy and tears of happiness in her client’s eyes, she realized her calling. She decided to focus entirely on crafting customized wedding dresses that are both dreamy and budget-friendly.
Despite the heavy competition from imported gowns with attractive designs and competitive prices, Japuno embraced the challenge. Her reasonable rates and commitment to quality service set her apart. She believes the uniqueness of her business lies in creating perfectly fitted dresses that bring out the glamour and confidence of every bride.
At the heart of crafting dream wedding dresses
For Japuno, every dress tells a story. She ensures that each gown reflects the personality of the bride, making the customization process deeply personal. She shared how heartwarming it is to see brides walk into a new chapter of their lives wearing something she handmade.
She also emphasized the importance of having a clear signature style as a designer. Whether it’s elegant minimalism, intricate detailing, or personalized touches, Japuno believes that a unique style leaves a lasting impression.
Like any startup, Japuno faces her share of challenges. Meeting tight deadlines and managing limited resources are constant hurdles. She hopes to expand her team in the future but currently handles most tasks herself due to financial constraints.
Another challenge is the rise of online businesses and second-hand clothing, which has impacted the sale of designer and quality goods. Despite this, Japuno remains committed to her craft, focusing on delivering exceptional value and quality to her clients.
