Mokokchung: School conducts cleanliness drive, planted trees around campus

Jubilee Memorial School in Chungtia, Mokokchung is trying to foster a holistic understanding of ecological systems and sustainability from early on by letting them understand the importance of proper waste management, plantation of trees, etc which will potentially make them a responsible citizen, Principal Menangchaba Kichu, informed Nagaland Tribune on 5 June 2024, World Environment Day.

When asked how the school integrates environmental education and awareness into its curriculum an RFd daily activities, Kichu replied that they “integrate environmental education awareness through subjects such as geography, biology and social studies which are interwoven with environmental themes.”

The Principal also mentioned that this year, its students were taught about bringing back healthy land through various practices and the proper management of water harvesting, sticking with the theme of WED 2024, “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience”.

“We also conducted a major cleanliness drive in and around the school campus and planted trees around the campus”, Menangchaba Kichu announced, adding that over 30 trees were planted by around 100 students.
