K3M, one of the oldest metal bands from Wokha, released the official music video of its new single Children of a Lesser God on 26 November.
The legendary band that began its journey 26 years ago consists of Thungbemo (Thung R Murry) on vocal, keys & bass (band leader), Vungshamo Murry (Moonshine) on guitar, Tsenjon Odyuo (Sheet N O) on guitar and, Janbemo Mozhui on drums.
At the release, Thungbemo (Thung R Murry), the main vocalist of K3M, got emotional as he revealed that the inspiration behind the single Children of a Lesser God was his late elder brother, who was a child with special needs.
The singer lamented for not doing more for his brother during their short time together on earth. He said that the band’s new song, which he began writing in 2021, highlights the plight of children with special needs.
Murry advocated that children with special needs are second to none and that we must all learn to treat them as our equals. He said that deprivation, physical abandonment and social marginalisation have a catastrophic effect on differently-abled children.
The music video was released by the Deputy Commissioner of Wokha, Ajit Kumar Ranjan, IAS.
The Wokha based band started as Sound Craft in 1996, playing cover songs but in the year 2008, the band took a giant leap and formed K3M. The band says that after “many struggles and challenges” it has “ultimately found their signature sound” and that it will now be sharing “original Music that is unmistakably from the heart”.
K3M describes its genre of music as a blend of “soft melodic sensibilities of ballads with the brutal attack of heavy/speed metal and Goth rock”.
The rock band has entertained music lovers of Nagaland for decades, but its highest moment so far is perhaps opening for the English rock band Smokie in 2014.
It is worth noting that since its inception, K3M has used its position and the platform for spreading good causes. It has been part of numerous charities and awareness campaigns on social issues.
The metal band mentions the charity concert for Wokha Bomb Blast Victims in 2000 and The Live Aid Patients Charity Concert 2010 and Advent Christmas Musical Night for the patients and staff at Dr Motsuo Memorial District Hospital Wokha in 2012 as some of its most memorable performances.
On 14 April 2022, the band signed a stakeholders’ partnership agreement with Indian Social Responsibility Network–ISRN in the presence of United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Wokha and JSI India Team to spread awareness in community mobilisation especially among youngsters towards Covid vaccination.

K3M, which is empaneled with Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA), Government of Nagaland, also conducts free music seminars and organises music competitions “to encourage and promote upcoming music talents”.
Currently, the band is working on their original songs and will be releasing their EP (extended play) very shortly, the band said.
