Kevichüsa speaks about Nagaland’s unique EDCs at Knowledge Exchange Workshop in Meghalaya

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) organised a two-day Knowledge Exchange Workshop ‘Meghalaya Edition’ on 18-19 November at Vivanta Hotel, Shillong.

On the first day of the workshop, Kekhrievor Kevichüsa, Commissioner & Secretary, Department of Industries & Commerce, Government of Nagaland, provided an overview of the impact of private players in the ecosystem. Kevichüsa also highlighted Nagaland’s unique Entrepreneurship Development Centres (EDC) in schools and colleges that are contributing to regional development.

The Industries and Commerce Department has set up EDCs in education institutions across Nagaland to promote start-up culture and innovation amongst the youth in Nagaland and to encourage the students to pursue entrepreneurship.

The EDCs provide critical facilities like plug-n-play working space and internet connectivity along with research and testing labs to support innovators to scale up their ideas.

Speaking to Nagaland Tribune, Kenei Theünuo, Deputy Director, Industries & Commerce, said: “It was a great learning experience. This knowledge exchange workshops are always useful.”

A total of 17 states participated in this workshop.

Earlier in the programme, Shivansh Awasthi, IAS, Executive Director of Meghalaya Institute of Entrepreneurship and Director of Sports and Youth Affairs, Meghalaya, welcomed the ecosystem stakeholders.

Dr Vijay Kumar D, IAS, Commissioner and Secretary of Government of Meghalaya, gave a keynote address about Meghalaya’s journey in the entrepreneurship ecosystem and becoming the country’s growing market despite geographical barriers.

DPIIT had held the Meghalaya edition of the Accelerating Startup Calibre and Entrepreneurial Drive (ASCEND) series on 15 November to support and encourage entrepreneurial spirit in northeastern states.

The one-day workshops comprised sensitisation and awareness sessions, boot camps, knowledge sessions and panel discussions to promote local and women entrepreneurs to scale and grow their ventures.

The next ASCEND Workshop will be held at Gangtok, Sikkim, on 21 November 2022.
