KFC opens first outlet in Mokokchung, plans expansion to Wokha and Mon

Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) world’s tastiest chicken restaurant officially opened its first outlet in Mokokchung on July 30 with a brief dedicatory programme held at its premises located at , near the Indian Post Office, IM Road, Sangtemla Ward. The outlet will operate daily from Monday – Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The store was inaugurated by Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, who also performed the ribbon-cutting ceremony. A dedicatory prayer was offered by Dr R Zulu Jamir, Associate Pastor (Family Ministry), Kumlong Baptist Church.

Speaking to the media persons, Dipayan Dutta, KFC Trainer, informed that the Mokokchung outlet is the 10th KFC store in Nagaland, adding to existing outlets in Dimapur, Chumoukedima, and Kohima. He stated that Nagaland has the second-highest number of KFC stores in the Northeast after Guwahati, Assam. A total of 58 KFC outlets are currently operational across the Northeast region, he added.

Dutta mentioned that the decision to open a store in Mokokchung was driven by the lack of a KFC presence in the area despite public demand over the years. “We are here to provide good, tasty chicken and quality customer service,” he said. According to him, it took approximately 45 to 50 days to complete the setup and launch the Mokokchung store.

The newly opened outlet is managed by Pujan Chettri, Restaurant General Manager (RGM). Sanjit Mandal, the Area Manager overseeing seven stores in Nagaland and Manipur, is scheduled to visit the Mokokchung store on a monthly basis.

Sagir, the Market Manager, shared that KFC India follows a strict set of criteria for selecting store locations, which includes area assessment, local consultation, and formal clearances. He further informed that KFC currently has around 1,200 outlets across India.

In terms of service, the Mokokchung store currently offers dine-in and takeaway, with delivery services expected to commence within a couple of weeks. KFC is planning to run its own delivery service independently, rather than partnering with aggregators like Zomato. The team is awaiting the arrival of 2 to 4 delivery scooties from Delhi to begin operations. Additionally, the store has also opened up

birthday celebration bookings and party arrangements as part of their services.

Eleven staff members have been employed at the Mokokchung outlet, all of whom are local residents.

Meanwhile, groundwork is already in progress to expand KFC operations to Wokha and Mon districts, as part of the brand’s ongoing expansion strategy in Nagaland.
