In a meeting of the Congress held in Dimapur, the party leaders discussed the possibility of AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, AICC General Secretary and Shashi Tharoor MP, as star campaigners in the event elections are announced.
The All India Congress Committee (AICC) leadership delegation led by Mukul Wasnik MP and AICC Senior Observer for Nagaland, Meghalaya and Tripura held discussions with the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) leaders K Therie, President NPCC and Bobby Panicker, Working President, this morning.
The AICC leadership delegation also included Mohan Prakash, AICC Screening Committee Chairman for Nagaland; Francisco Sardinha, MP and AICC Observer; Dr K Jayakumar, MP and AICC Observer; Sanjay Dutt Member, AICC Screening Committee; and Ranajit Mukherjee, AICC Secretary I/C Nagaland and Sikkim.
Discussions were held on the probability of elections being announced or the imposition of President’s Rule in the state. The meeting also appraised the mood of the people of the state and the prospects of the upcoming elections.
Sharing on the mood of the people, Therie said in the ground reality of Nagaland, the people are not in the mood for election. Voters want implementation of the agreed political solutions. However, he stated that if BJP and NDPP want to go against the wishes of the people and have elections, then come what may, the state Congress is prepared to fight all out.
The NPCC leaders also discussed that it has been noted the CBSC exam routine starts from 15 February 2023 and therefore if elections are announced, the Election Commission may have to complete the election process before 15 February leaving hardly 35 days. Therefore, irrespective of whether elections are announced or PR imposed, he stated the Congress has decided to prepare to meet the challenges.
The NPCC leaders also discussed on the Secular Front and said that if elections are announced finalization with like-minded parties will be done and if not, the Congress may have to fight all the 60 assembly constituencies.
The delegation assured its full support to the state Congress, if elections are announced, to fight and dethrone the 20-year misrule of BJP alliance with regionals.
