Khelo India Centre Boxing held in Wokha

Wokha: 14 girls and 18 boys enrolled as trainees to undergo training; later to represent state and national level in Boxing

Y.M. Humtsoe, MLA & Chairman DPDB Wokha, inaugurated the Khelo India Centre for Boxing at Police Reserve DEF, Wokha on 18th July 2024, informed DIPR.

Y.M. Humtsoe, MLA, speaking at the inaugural function lauded the State Government and the Department of Youth Resource & Sports for adopting Regimental School, Wokha to set up the Khelo India Centre in the discipline of boxing. He added that through this centre, enthusiast youth from all over the district will be nurtured and groomed in the discipline of boxing and expressed hope that the centre will produce prominent sports personalities. He also assured to extend help in whatever way possible to upgrade and make this centre a reputed centre in order to harness young talents.

Aotula T. Imchen, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Wokha, highlighting on the project informed that an MOU was signed between the Police Department and the Department of Youth Resource & Sports for a period of four (4) years, to identify young talents. She further added that if this centre performs well within this period, it has the potential of becoming a Centre of Excellence (COE) and urged youngsters to take seriously of the facilities and avail the opportunity. She also expressed hope that through the centre, talents will be able to excel in the state, national and international level and bring laurel to the district.

The SP thanked the DIG for the support extended and providing with the infrastructure and allowing to establish the KIC, Boxing centre at Police Reserve (DEF) Wokha and all officials involved for supporting this project and making it into a reality.

She further stated that though this centre is established at Regimental School, the facilities provided by KIC will be for all students/participants and everyone across all the districts who are interested in boxing and urged the youth to avail the opportunity.

Under KIC (boxing), a permanent coach has been appointed to identify and train young talents who will latter represent the state as well as national level in the discipline of boxing, currently 14 girls and 18 boys are enrolled as trainees to undergo training from different schools under Wokha district.

The programme was chaired by K. Libemo Jami, DYRO, Wokha while vote of thanks was proposed by Sangthing Khiam, SDPO, Wokha.
