The Khiamniungan Students’ Union has banned door to door hawking by non-locals in areas under Khiamniungan jurisdiction.

In a directive issued on Wednesday, the union’s president Shangchiu and general secretary Pusho P stated that the prohibition will be effective from 15 June 2023, which is today.

“Due to the alarming illegal influx of non locals at recent days which threatened the privacy and security of the community, the Union has been forced to issue the directive to mitigate the issue,” KSU stated.

The student body also expressed its displeasure over reports that some Khiamniungan villages had permission to some non-local vendors “in letter and in spirit” allowing the vendors to carry out business in the villages that include door to door hawking.

“… such permit shall not be entertained,” KSU asserted.

Further, the union cautioned that stern action would be taken against defaulters.
