The Kikrüma Association Kohima (KAK) celebrated its Golden Jubilee on December 20 at the Capital Cultural Hall, Kohima, marking 50 years of unity, service and shared history.
Chairman of Kohima Village Council (KVC), Hielievio Solo, who graced the occasion as the special guest, described the Golden Jubilee as “Biblical” and said the celebration was truly worth commemorating. Extending greetings to KAK, he acknowledged the association’s contribution to the growth and development of Kohima town.
Solo noted that both Kikrüma and Kohima villages are blessed with vast land and fertile soil, and recalled the strong friendship forged by elders of the two villages despite many challenges. He stressed that the present generation must strengthen this bond for posterity so that it becomes a blessing to neighbouring villages and Naga society as a whole.
Reflecting on the present state of Naga society, he said the community is undergoing a paradigm shift where greed is overpowering collective interest. He called for a return to age-old values and traditions. Highlighting history, Solo reminded that Kohima and Kikrüma villages had together resisted colonial forces in pursuit of Naga independence and self-determination, and urged the two villages to continue standing together for the Naga cause.
He further suggested youth and cultural exchange programmes between the two villages to promote deeper understanding and preserve shared history, values and traditions through marriage, documentation and cultural interaction.
Former Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Thenucho Tünyi, delivered greetings and appreciated the pioneer citizens of Kikrüma who first settled in Kohima, while also acknowledging the hospitality of Kohima village. He welcomed representatives from various villages, stating that their presence symbolised enduring friendship and brotherhood.
Tünyi urged Kikrüma citizens to be mindful in speech, truthful and honest in order to strengthen bonds, and called upon government officials to work sincerely for the welfare of the downtrodden. He emphasised continued commitment to the Naga political issue and encouraged youths to look beyond saturated government employment by venturing into business, entrepreneurship and becoming global citizens in the age of computers, science and artificial intelligence.

Delivering the presidential address, Povezo Puro, President of KAK, expressed gratitude to the pioneers of the association. He said the community has grown not only in numbers but also in values such as unity, respect and adaptability. He informed that the KAK population in Kohima stands at around 1,200, comprising 230 households, excluding students and those living in rented accommodations.
Puro highlighted that during the present tenure, the association held 21 sittings and two consecutive meetings, visited 12 patients from villages, and conducted two Gospel Sunday services as resolved by predecessors. He also informed that 22 members were lost—12 from the Kohima-based association and 10 from the village. As a prelude to the Golden Jubilee-cum-Gospel service, a programme was held on November 9, 2025, at the SIRD Complex.
