Kiphire: MLA Kipili Sangtam hails women as cornerstones of family and society

The 17th UBA Akehta Sangtamlarü Thsingmüjang (United Sangtam Women Organization) General Session concluded on 7th November 2024. The two-day event was held under the theme “Jangjang Rezeh Kohchehba Khingkurü” (Self-Actualized Woman) at Kiphire and brought together Sangtam women from across Nagaland to celebrate their roles and contributions to society.

The session on Friday was graced by MLA and Chairman DPDB Kiphire, C. Kipili Sangtam, as the Special Guest. He also unfurled the AST flag at the Public Ground in Kiphire.

In his address, he commended women as the “cornerstones” of family and society, noting their contributions as caregivers, educators, entrepreneurs, leaders, and changemakers. He encouraged all women to continue fulfilling their roles in shaping a better family and society.

The speakers further underscored the importance of valuing and empowering women, describing them as the “backbone of society.” They called for recognizing women’s tireless contributions and supporting them in reaching their full potential.

The speakers for the session were Rozy Sangtam, EAC, Wokha, and Yangtsapila Sangtam, Advocate at the Kohima Bench of the Guwahati High Court. Both speakers highlighted the significant role women play within the family and society, emphasizing that their influence in nurturing and educating family members contributes immensely to the community’s overall development.

AST President S. Apila and General Secretary Atsala Anar had their tenures extended in acknowledgment of their dedicated service to the organization.

The event saw participation from Sangtam women across various sections of society and prominent attendees, including Aliba, President of the United Sangtam Likhüm Pümji (USLP); Temsuwati Longkumer (NCS), DC of Kiphire; Sethrongba, President of the United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC); and Alongse, President of the United Sangtam Gazetted Officers’ Union (USGOU). Representatives from the Eastern Sumi Totimi Hoho were also in attendance, demonstrating solidarity with AST’s mission and achievements.
