The Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) campaign was officially launched in Kiphire on Saturday during a program Organized by DHEW (District Hub for Empowerment of Women), Sakhi one stop and Kiphire District Administration held at Hopongkyu Memorial Hall, Kiphire, DIPR informed. The event themed “Reach every woman of trafficking: Leave No One Behind” also marked the observation of the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons which is 30 July.

DC Kiphire, John Tsulise Sangtam, highlighted that the main objective of launching this program is to combat gender bias in the society, encourage gender equality and fight against gender discrimination so as to take the girl child forward. He said that based on observations in the schools, college and exams, gender bias in the district is low.

He urged the society to give equal education, concern and love towards girl children to prepare them to become assets to the society and nation. Let us all work together to bring our precious girl children forward and upward for a better change, DC Sangtam said.

A recent example of encouraging women empower was set at NLA under CM Rio government where for the first time we saw a sitting women minister at the state assembly, these progress and steps should lead us for a better change in mindset and bring forth inclusiveness between gender and society, Sangtam said.

SP Kiphire M Swabarnikam, IPS, in her brief speech said more girl education means more women empowerment, more women empowerment leads to more prosperous family and country. The SP is the first women IPS officer posted in the district and proud mother of two daughters.

The welcome address was delivered by Chubamongla Kichu, EAC Kiphire.

A seminar on human trafficking was also conducted which was taken up by Additional SP Lanu Aier and Levi Awomi, CHILDLINE coordinator Kiphire.
