World Malaria Day was observed at District Hospital in Kiphire under the aegis of National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) on Tuesday on the theme “Time to deliver zero malaria; invest, innovate, implement”. The best performing ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) workers in the district were also felicitated at the programme.
The top three best performing ASHA workers in Kiphire district are Thepila of Thangthure village, L Tsumongshi of Anatongre Village and Thaiya of Salomi village.
Congratulating the ASHA workers, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kiphire, Robin Dailiam stated that they have always been a Backbone in pushing the boundaries to eliminate malaria and many other diseases which are a threat to mankind.
The Special Guest also said that it was not only the duty of ASHA workers and hospital staffs to educate about malaria but all who are aware can play a role in eliminating the disease. It will take a team effort to make malaria elimination reality., he added and expressed hope that Kiphire will soon be a best performer of Malaria elimination in the state.
He mentioned that the government is taking serious steps in bringing solution to eliminate malaria and many other diseases and so even the general public must make best use of the opportunities to live a healthy life.
Dailiam further said that in the earlier days malaria was a dreaded disease killing thousands of people but after the discovery of its medicines there is hope, and yet in some parts of the world where there are thick forests and rivers and warm climate, malaria is still relevant today and it continues to kill many people even today.
With the impact of global warming the habitats of mosquito have also increase therefore one should always be aware of it, the ADC advised.
Dr Martha, District Vector Borne Officer (DVBO) in her keynote address mentioned that World Malaria Day was first observed in 2008. She further said that malaria is a life-threatening disease caused by parasites that are transmitted to people through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes and also that it is preventable and curable.
The treatment of Malaria is free, and our organization is working to provide needed kits such as mosquito nets to all needed villages in the district, Dr. Martha highlighted. We have tested 10k samples and gladly till last year our district (Kiphire) have not witness any malaria report, she shared the success story.

Earlier in the programme, the welcome address was delivered by Dr. Moanganba Jamir, Senior Dental Surgeon. Jamir said that World Malaria Day is an auspicious day as it is one of the most important days to the people of the world. He enlightened that there are 161 countries in the world that still suffers from the wrath of malaria, yet the good news to this generation is that it is a curable disease.
The invocation was pronounced by Pastor Bhim, Nepali Baptist Church Kiphire, Alemla & friend gave a song presentation, vote of thanks was delivered by Zhokuve Vero, VDB consultant and the benediction was pronounced by R P Venthong, Pastor, Tikhir Baptist Church, Kiphire.
