Kiphire to host first ever Mango Festival at Longmatra

The District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) meeting of Kiphire was held today at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, where several key issues related to development, welfare, and upcoming events in the district were discussed.

One of the highlights of the meeting was the proposal to host the first-ever Mango Festival at Longmatra, aimed at discovering and promoting the rich and unexplored agricultural resources under Kiphire district. The district administration along with stakeholders would initiate first of its kind festival to celebrate and promote local economy.

The Deputy Commissioner expressed appreciation to all officers and village leaders for their consistent cooperation and commitment to bring about a positive change and development in local areas. He emphasized that sustainable progress would only be possible through active public awareness and support.

Another major agenda was the upcoming Miss Kiphire 2025 event, to be led by Stargazer Event, an organisation committed to nurturing youth talent in arts, fashion, and music.

EAC Takatemjen Pongen, while addressing the board, underscored the importance of supporting young professionals including local photographers, designers, videographers, entrepreneurs, and event managers who are striving to be self-reliant.

The Miss Kiphire event is tentatively scheduled for September, with final dates yet to be confirmed.

Another important issue discussed at the meeting was relating to the memorandum submitted for the upgradation of the Sub-Centre cum Health and Wellness Centre (SC-HWC) to a Primary Health Centre at Longmatra.

The President of the Longmatra Area Students’ Union highlighted the importance of the matter, which was also submitted through a formal letter to the district administration along with required documents attached to the matter.

The President also stressed on the urgency of this need of health facilities under Longmatra, stating that the area comprising of 13 villages with almost 9000 population, lies along NH-202, but currently has not a single PHC.

Meanwhile, ADC Kiphire, briefed the details of department in-charges under the work distribution to host Independence Day on August 15, directing all the respective department to be sincere and responsible in all matters of assignment and work hand in hand to make the independence day a grand success.

The other agenda discussed in the meeting included Registration of “Goodwill Society” , Housing Department SDO, Pungro; Posting of AUDO (Asst.Urban Development Officer) Kiphire; Posting of District Transport office, and approval of LADP Scheme 2025-2026 which was particularly briefed by District planning officer.

Chief Medical Officer and District Fishery office gave a Powerpoint presentation on the activities conducted under the department.
