Under the theme “Knowledge is Power”, the Sunglup Students Union celebrated its Golden Jubilee from December 29 and 30. The celebration featured distinguished guests: T Mhabemo Yanthan IAS, Commissioner Nagaland & Commandant General Village Guards, GoN, as the Chief Guest; C. Peter Yanthan, Additional Director, Department of Agriculture, GoN, as the Special Guest; and Dr. Evothung Ezung, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, Kohima College, Kohima, as the theme speaker.
In his address, the Chief Guest stressed the importance of confidence in the journey of life, emphasizing that success is not uniformed for everyone. Yanthan encouraged students to pursue diverse educational paths and advised against self-doubt for those facing challenges. He urged the audience to apply their acquired knowledge to uplift society, underscoring the futility of knowledge if not utilized effectively. The significance of labor dignity and self-reliance by leveraging available resources was also emphasised.
Furthermore, he urged aspiring candidates for competitive exams to dedicate themselves wholeheartedly, emphasizing sacrifice and commitment as pivotal to achieving their goals. Speaking on career choices, he emphasized not only education but also self-awareness and talent exploration for a promising future.
“Knowledge, when coupled with discipline, character, and morals, yields success,” stated Theme Speaker, Dr. Evothung Ezung. Highlighting the dual facets of learning: traditional and modern sources, Dr. Ezung stressed on the importance of social values in the learning process and advocating for respect toward all individuals. Quoting Francis Bacon’s “Knowledge is Power,” he amplified the idea of knowledge-sharing as the bedrock of influence and reputation, driving all achievements. Dr. Ezung also underscored the importance of biodiversity preservation, urging the gathering to protect and conserve biodiversity.

Special numbers were presented by Sunglup women’s group and Nadia Yanthan. The Jubilee monolith was dedicated by Rev. Mhonthung Yanthan and unveiled by the Chief Guest. N Meri Ezung hosted the jubilee flag, and jubilee greetings were extended by the Sunglup village chairman, President Lotha Students Union, President Lotha Middle Range Students Union, and President Yonchucho Students Union during the event’s second session.
In the second session the Special Guest C. Peter Yanthan, Additional Director, Department of Agriculture, expressed warm jubilee greetings, acknowledging the visionary pioneers who laid the foundation for the Sunglup Students Union fifty years ago. He stressed the power of knowledge in shaping one’s circumstances and advised students to utilize knowledge positively, embracing a lifelong learning approach.
