Kohima: CRIMHSC holds stress awareness program at GMS, T. Khel

Kohima: Program includes interactive session with teachers and group discussion with students

Stress awareness program at GMS, T. Khel, Kohima Village on 23 May 2023

On the Second day of ‘Stress Awareness Week’, Carl Rogers Institute of Mental Health and School Counselling (CRIMHSC) in collaboration with the Directorate of State and Family Welfare, National Mental Health Program, organised a program at Government Middle School T. Khel, Kohima Village.

Vetalu Nyekha and Thelu Pohena were the resource persons at Tuesday’s program.

Vetalu Nyekha spoke to the teachers about how teaching is one of the most stressful jobs and that one needs to learn how to balance work life with life outside of work. “Stress can be positive when controlled it motivates us to work harder, this stress is called eustress whereas distress is the negative stress which happens when it goes uncontrolled”, Vetalu said.

She also mentioned about some healthy ways to cope with stress including physical exercise, meditation and to talk to a friend or a therapist.

Meanwhile, Thelu Pohena from CRIMHSC spoke to the students about the different types and signs of stress and how important it is to manage stress. She mentioned some strategies that can be used to manage stress that can come from family, caregivers or school. She also talked about how stress can affect a person both physically and psychologically.

The CRIMHSC program on the second day of the Stress Awareness Week concluded with an interactive session with the teachers and group discussion with the students.
