The Deputy Commissioner Kohima, Shanavas C, IAS has notified that the updation exercise of the Non-Naga Local Indigenous Nepali/Gorkha of Kohima district will be kept in abeyance till clarity from the Government on the further course of action to be taken by the Office is received.
The notification was issued in supersession of the Office Notification of even number dated 17/08/2023 and given the objections received from various Tribal Hohos and other organizations.
The DC’s earlier notification on the “publication of the draft updated list of Non-Naga Local Indigenous Nepal/Gorkha residents under Kohima District” that mentioned the qualifying date for inclusion in the list as “up to June 11, 2016”, had shocked indigenous Nagas who voiced out strongly against it. Various organisations from the State demanded that the order be revoked immediately.
