Kohima gets two Multi-Level Car Parking; Guv says city ‘heralding a new era of urban modernity’

The much awaited Multi-Level Car Parking (MLCP) was inaugurated on Saturday in two different sites in Kohima by Nagaland Governor La Ganesan and Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs and Petroleum & Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri.

The first MLCP was inaugurated by Nagaland Governor La Ganesan at P.R Hill, Kohima in the presence of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio which was followed by the second inauguration of MLCP at NST Bus Station by Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs and Petroleum & Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri.

The construction of Multi-Level Car Parking in the state Capital Kohima was a long-awaited dream to operate modern parking smart solutions for the city and to ease the traffic congestion to a major extent thereby aiding to a more regulated and smooth traffic flow. The MLCP will create more parking availability in limited spaces, which is desirable for cities, business, and events.

Governor La Ganesan addressing the inaugural programme asserted it is not just an inauguration of parking facilities but it represents the commitment of the Government to serve the people and to progress and march towards prosperity.

Mentioning that as Kohima is growing by leaps and bounds in terms of areas as well as population he said, it is also grappling with the issue of traffic problem for some years. And today, we stand here collectively, taking a significant stride towards restoring order, alleviating parking troubles, and heralding a new era of urban modernity, said the Governor.

He remarked that the inauguration of these multi-level car parkings marks a watershed moment in our city’s infrastructure development journey adding that it is a step in the right direction towards becoming a smart city – a city with smart infrastructure as well as smart citizens.

The Governor views that these state-of-the-art facilities, equipped with modern amenities, are not just concrete structures, but a testament to resolve and address the pressing urban challenges effectively. He said, “It is an essential tool in our efforts to reinvigorate Kohima’s downtown, boost our local businesses, and ensure a better quality of life for our people.”

He urged the people of the state to let the inauguration of these multi-level car parkings serve as the embodiment of progress and innovation here in Kohima, transcending beyond alleviating our parking woes.

“This development is a promise, a commitment, that our city is not just growing, but evolving ― growing smarter and becoming more efficient.”

Further he reminded the people that the state is taking a significant step towards a more systematic, organized Kohima. Our efforts for better lives and better amenities should not stop here. Every citizen of Kohima is a stakeholder in its progress towards modernity. Let us all shoulder the responsibility to shape Kohima’s future and extend the best possible support and cooperation to all the government agencies in development projects, said the Governor.

The Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio who in his address stated that the state has achieved another landmark by inaugurating two Multi Level Car Parking at old Medical Directorate, P.R Hill, Kohima and NST bus station Kohima. The CM on behalf of the Government of Nagaland acknowledged his gratitude to the Government of India for according sanctions for the construction of MLCP in the state capital under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)

The Chief Minister also acknowledged the Governor for doing the act of inauguration of MLCP at P.R Hill. He also expressed his gratefulness to Governor for his constant help and support towards the state infrastructural development. CM also thanked all the concerned including the CEO, Smart City Development Ltd. and his engineering team, all the contractors, and NPWD for their rendering all possible help and support in bringing many successful accomplishments in Kohima.

CM also called upon the stakeholders to be more responsible to use and maintained the parking facilities with better civic sense. The MLCP will ease parking on the road side and accidents in the cities which will give a great boost to the citizens of the Kohima.

During the momentous occasion, on behalf of Government of Nagaland the Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio lauded and expressed his gratitude to the PM Narendra Modi for his vision and broadminded for undertaken infrastructural and development activities.

Rio mentioned that the road from T. Khel model village to IG stadium, Meriema will be accorded importance by granting more funds and it will be carried out by NHIDCL to ease traffic congestion in the capital city giving convenience to commuters of Wokha, Tseminyu, Zunheboto and Mokokchung without passing through the heart of the capital. He also said that our city also needs to implement Building Bye-Laws so as to keep space for vehicle parking while constructing houses. He added that the Nagas want a rich life style but remain poor because we have not fully exploited our resources and with no revenue, therefore, he urged the people to utilize our resources for revenue and jobs.

The Multi-Level Car Parking at PR Hill consists a total floor area of about 1,40,000 sq. ft having G + 5 floors. It has also constructed 62 rooms for shops (6 in ground floor, 28 in 4th and 28 rooms in 5th floor). The three floors (First to third floor) for car parking having capacity of 180 cars which also include public toilets, CCTVs, lift facility, food court on top floor and also Epoxy car deck flooring are provided in all the floors. The building was completed in July 2023 after taking over.
