The Gorkha community observed Balidan Diwas (Martyrs’ Day) on Friday in honour of veer shahid Major Durga Malla and veer shahid Captain Neikezhakuo Kenguruse at GPPK Multi-utility Hall, Chandmari Kohima.
Gorkha Public Panchayat Kohima (GPPK) organized the occasion along with all NGOs, Clubs and Jatiya Sansthas of the Gorkhas in Kohima with Inspector General of Assam Rifles (North), Maj Gen Vikas Lakhera as the special guest.

Addressing the gathering, Maj Gen Lakhera said it is sad when somebody has to sacrifice their life, but the two brave hearts sacrificed for the country and we have to honour their sacrifice so that future generations take motivation from them.
He saluted and paid homage to the sacrifice of the two heroes and also hoped that the younger generation will get motivated through them.
As the officer of Assam Rifles, he also lauded the Gorkhas for their bravery in line of duty and for the nation by making immense sacrifices. He also expressed happiness that Gorkhas have been upholding the tradition and culture and also passing it to the younger generation.
Chaired by Yommi Rai the programme commenced with lighting of lamp by the dignitaries while IGAR(N), parents of Captain Late Kenguruse and others joined in paying floral tribute to the martyrs’.
GPPK president Santu Thapa delivered the welcome address while Chandmari Gorkha Union secretary Samir Thapa tendered the vote of thanks.
The occasion was also marked felicitation of Manav Gurung for securing 6th position in HSSLC 2023 Science Stream.
Special cultural performances by Monica & friends, Deepti Gurung & Friends, patriotic song by Karishma Baraily and welcome song by Vivela Club enthralled the gathering.
