The dental team from Naga Hospital Authority Kohima conducted oral cancer screening activities at Kros College Kohima on Thursday. The activity was organised under National Oral Health Programme and as part of the ‘Oral Cancer Awareness Month’.
A short talk on ‘Causes and Prevention of Oral Cancer’ was delivered by Dr. I. Simon Sumi District Oral Health Officer Kohima.
Oral screening of 36 students were performed by junior dental surgeons from Naga Hospital Authority Kohima namely Dr. Akenyu, Dr. Lydia and Dr. Kemezhünuo.

The month of April is observed as the ‘Oral Cancer Awareness Month’ annually to spread awareness of oral cancer to the public including which symptoms to look out for; who’s more likely to get oral cancer; the importance of early detection and treatment; screening recommendations.
India is called the “Oral cancer capital of the world” because oral cancer has become an epidemic disease in India. It is the leading cancer among both men and women in India.
