The two-day Inter-School Athletic Meet, jointly organized by the Kohima District Administration, District Sports Office, Kohima District Athletic Association, and District Hub for the Empowerment of Women, concluded successfully at the Indira Gandhi Stadium on 21 July 2023.
The event, held under the “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” campaign, aimed to promote the cause of “Save the Girl Child, Educate the Girl Child” and encourage female students to excel in sports and education. Deputy Commissioner Shanavas C, IAS, delivering an inspiring speech during the closing ceremony, urged all participants to strive for excellence in sports and empower themselves through education, DIPR informed.

Around 300 female students from 33 private and government schools in Kohima actively participated in the athletic meet, making it a resounding success. The event marked the introduction of the “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” campaign in Kohima District, with the office of the Deputy Commissioner serving as the Nodal Agency for the campaign.
Through this athletic meet, the district authorities aimed to not only foster a competitive spirit among students but also highlight the importance of empowering women through education and sports. The event’s success underscores the commitment of Kohima District in promoting gender equality and empowering its young girls to achieve their fullest potential.
