The Konyak Union said in a statement that the Konyak mother tongue language will be made a mandatory subject for classes 1 to 8 come the next academic year.
It was also informed that those schools where the subject will be introduced for the first time can do so in a phase manner.
This was decided at a joint consultive meeting held at Konyak Union office between the Union, the Konyak Literature Board (KLB) and All Nagaland Private Schools’ Association (ANPSA) on Thursday.
In the statement, the union stated that “The house unanimously agreed” to implement the Konyak mother tongue language more effectively in all private schools in Mon district.
It confirmed that the exercise will begin from 2023 and in view of this, the Konyak Union has requested all schools to place the orders for SCERT published Nagaland Heritage Studies textbooks at the earliest from its office.
The Union also directed all private schools to appoint a Konyak language teacher each. Specifying on the appointment of the teacher, it said that the candidate must pass the “Proficiency Test” to be eligible for the position.
