Hours after Peyao Konyak, a resident of Monyakshu village under Mon District, was reported missing and claimed to have abducted by unknown miscreants at Yairipok, Thoubal district, Manipur, the Manipur Home Department has clarified that Konyak was not abducted but left his current address on his own accord following an altercation with his family.
Speaking to the Nagaland Tribune, an official from the Manipur Home Department clarified that Peyao Konyak, an employee at Victoria Veneer Mills, Manipur “was not abducted but he disappeared on his own after an altercation with his family on September 20.”
“There were heated words of exchange between Konyak and his family members after which he disappeared himself without telling his family, or fellow workers of the mill. He left the work place without giving any information,” said the official.

The official further informed that the Imphal East Police found Konyak at a Rehabilitation centre.
Contrary to statements posted by Y. Patton, Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland, claiming that Konyak had gone missing under “the influence of drugs”, the official maintained that “it is still uncertain whether Konyak is a regular drug user”.
Patton had also expressed gratitude to Manipur’s Chief Minister Biren Singh and the Manipur Police for the swift and effective action in ensuring his safety.
“As soon as the missing report was filed the Police swung into action however, there was no trace of Konyak. Around 2:30 pm today the Imphal East Police found him at a rehabilitation centre after which he was taken to the police station,” stated the Official.
Earlier, the Konyak Union (KU) had expressed concerned over the abduction of Peyao Konyak, son of late Moba Konyak, a resident of Monyakshu village under Mon District, Nagaland. Claiming that Konyak was abducted by unidentified miscreants in Yairipok, Thoubal district, Manipur, the KU had sent an urgent appeal the Government of Nagaland to intervene with it’s the Manipur State government, counterparts to take swift and decisive action.
“Our community has a longstanding commitment to peace and harmony, and we have appealed for peace and reconciliation between the Meiteis and the Kuki groups in Manipur. We have consistently advocated for peaceful coexistence and refrained from taking sides in any ongoing crisis in Manipur,” mentioned the KU in its statement.
