The Konyak Union (KU) has implored authorities to declare state of war against drug users and peddlers in the wake of the ‘heinous and senseless murder’ of Lt Ahoa Konyak, chairman of the Action Committee, Tizit Area Students’ Union (TASU) on Thursday at Pentom Ward in Tizit Town.

KU said it is deeply saddened and outraged by the killing of its dedicated student leader ‘who selflessly worked for the betterment of our society and the community at large.’ It added, ‘His sincere, honest, humble, and well-disciplined nature set an exemplary standard for all. The loss of such a promising young leader is an irreparable tragedy, leaving our union and the entire community devastated.’

The apex organisation of the Konyak tribe while condemning the actions of the accused demanded that the law enforcing agencies swiftly bring the perpetrator to justice and impose the strictest and severest punishment possible. It further cautioned against seeking bail for the accused.

‘This incident serves as a wake-up call for the entire administration and society,’ the Konyak Union stated, appealing for declaration of state of war against drug users and peddlers, ‘going to the extent of implementing a “shoot at sight” policy.’ It said that the menace and threats drug users and dealers pose on society and humanity ‘cannot be tolerated any longer’.

We must take decisive action to protect our communities from the devastating consequences of drug abuse and trafficking, KU stated.

The union assured unwavering support to the grieving family in the fight for justice and urged all to unite as a community to honour Lt Ahoa Konyak’s memory and continue his legacy of service.

It further called upon the government to provide the victim’s family with the necessary ex-gratia and financial assistance, acknowledging the sacrifice made by him in the noble pursuit of social causes.

‘We demand justice, we demand action, and we demand a safer future for all,’ the Konyak Union stated.
