The 21 candidates from Tizit, Naginimora and Aboi under Mon district who had filed their nominations on 11 June for the forthcoming Urban Local Bodies (ULB) election have failed to present themselves before the Konyak Union (KU) at its office in Mon today.

Following the reports of nominations being filed on the last day the Konyak Union had summoned the 21 candidates today at 11:00 am in their office for violating the February 23, 2024 Chenmoho resolution which states that the Eastern Nagaland will not participate in any central or state elections.

As the candidates failed to present themselves, the KU has resolved to give a grace time of 24 hours (till 3pm of 13 June) to these candidates to present themselves and withdraw their candidatures.

Scrutiny of the nominations will be held tomorrow and the last date of withdrawal for the candidates is slated for 18 June.

The Yimkhiung Tribal Council has also issued an order directing all 27 candidates under Pungro and Shamator to withdraw their candidature by June 17.

Meanwhile, all 13 candidates from Longleng have withdrawn their candidature.
