The Kuki Tribal Union (KTU/NSCN) has issued a clarification regarding the incident that took place at Chassad village on the night of February 10, 2026, refuting reports circulating on social media and other platforms.
In a statement issued by L Khongsal, Secretary, KTU/NSCN, the organisation said rumours had alleged that a Tangkhul Naga women’s group attempted to set fire to Chassad, a Kuki village, and further claimed that Indian security forces were transporting Kuki militants from across the Myanmar border, specifically from the KNA-8 group, to Utan Sareikhong and nearby Sarkaphung village.
Dismissing these allegations as false, the KTU/NSCN stated that no Tangkhul Naga women’s team attacked Chassad village. It also denied claims that Indian security forces were escorting Kuki militants into the area.
According to the Union, the Tangkhul Naga women had rushed to the area with the intention of checking security movements and preventing the entry of militants into their locality. The KTU/NSCN said the women’s actions were aimed at maintaining peace and preventing escalation of tensions following two recent incidents reported in neighbouring areas. However, the situation was allegedly misinterpreted, leading to the spread of misinformation.

The organisation further appealed to the public not to share or circulate a video linked to the incident, stating that such content could further aggravate tensions. It urged individuals to delete the video from their records and encourage others to do the same.
Reiterating its commitment to peace, the KTU/NSCN said it would continue making efforts to stabilise the situation and maintain harmony in the region.
