Kudecho Khamo tells sportspersons there is prospect and future in sports as 37th PDSA Meet gets underway at Chozuba Town

Chozuba: Choyivelu Nienu of Phek Area Sports Association broke the 2013 record in long jump for women’s category

The 37th Meet of the Phek District Sports Association (PDSA) is underway at Chozuba Town on Tuesday with Advisor for CAWD and Taxes, Kudecho Khamo gracing the inaugural session as the special guest.

Advisor Khamo in his address congratulate Sezovelu Dozo from Sepaktakraw and other players from the district who won medals at International, national, Northeast Olympic Games and Nagaland Olympic while he encouraged the youth and the sports persons to take their life seriously in the various discipline stating that they are the future of the society.

He exhorted the players not to play for the sake of participation but to compete in their career and life to become professionals in every walk of life.

Highlighting the importance of sports, stating that it has become important for everyone with a future having huge scope with recognition and wealth globally and he advised the sportspersons to be focused on their sports discipline to be medal winners.

Khamo said to be a sports person requires a person to be disciplined with lots of training while also maintaining integrity at the highest level to be morally acceptable and be successful.

He pointed out that Nagaland state under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio who is also the president of Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) is giving priority to sports and sportsperson for the promotion of sports and asserted that there is a prospect and future.

While he also informed that the state will also be hosting the Northeast Olympic Games and exuded hope the state sportsperson will win more than a hundred medals.

He called upon the youth to be change makers, be serious, to have vision, goals and plans for the future while also venture into entrepreneurship rather than focusing on government jobs alone which he said the government of the day will not be able to provide government jobs to everyone.

Further he told the youth to avail the Chief Minister’s Micro Finance scheme to take up business as a career and be enterprising.

Meanwhile, Guest of Honour Dr Neisatuo Mero, MLA in his speech congratulated the PDSA for convergence of brothers and sisters between the Chakhesang and Pochury to compete in the district level sports and wished for more such platforms.

He also lauded the players who have brought medals from various disciplines at various levels while he told the youth to have the will to turn their love for sports into a profession adding that the state government is also doing that to promote the same under the leadership of CM Rio.

Further Dr Mero told the sportspersons to utilise their Ability (skills), Boldness, Consistency and Discipline in punctuality in training, practices and dieting which he said are important to be champion.

Nezosa Tetseo, President PDSA in his address called upon the sports persons to give their best to compete in order to represent the district at the next Nagaland Olympic.

PDSA General Secretary, Solomon Ritse introduced the Group Champion donated by Late Vamuzo Memorial Trophy with a running cash award of INR 2,00,000 sponsored by family members.

The PDSA also felicitated various medal winners from the district at international, national and Northeast Olympic Games with cash award and citations.

Earlier welcome address was delivered by Vekhruto Nyekha, President Chozuba Areas Sports Association (CASA), invocation was said by Vekusa Nyekha, Pastor CTBC and the programme was chaired by Vekhozo, Advisor PDSA.

Results update on Day 1

On day-1, Chozuba Area Sports Association leads the table tally with 12 medals (5 gold, 3 silver and four bronze. While Chokri Area Sports and Games Association in second with 4 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze totalling 10 medals. The third with Central Chakhesang Sports Association with 5 medals totalling 2 gold and 3 silver. Tizu area Sports Association is yet to win any medal on day-1.

Choyivelu Nienu of Phek Area Sports Association broke the 2013 record in long jump for women’s category. Her best throw of 4.48 m broke the previous record of 2013 hold by Khotsolü from Chozuba Area Sports association with 4.45m (14.7 ft) in the year 2013.

Kunulu of CCSA in second place with 4.21 m and third with Dukhsulu Vese (PASA) with 4.15 m.

In men’s high jump, Nagaland best high jumper Eto Kezo defended his title to secure the first gold for Nagaland with a jump of 6.09 m. The second with Ruvezo Rose of (CAGSA) with 1.80 metres and third with Yhoto Lohe (CASA) with 1.80 metres.
