Advisor and Chairman of District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) Phek, Kudecho Khamo, today called on all Heads of Departments (HoDs) under Phek district to personally initiate projects aimed at empowering youths and farmers to boost empowerment, income generation and enhance the local economy.

He made this appeal while addressing the DPDB Phek meeting held at Vamuzo Memorial Hall, Chozuba Town.

He encouraged the youth to take advantage of government schemes meant for entrepreneurship and skill development, and called upon the pubic to cooperate with the government to avail schemes meant for youths, farmers and entrepreneurs.

Khamo noted that it was the first-ever DPDB meeting held at Chozuba Town since the establishment of the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Headquarters — a milestone in the district’s administrative history.

He underscored Chozuba’s prominence but expressed concern that development in the area remains at an initial stage. He informed that the matter has been taken up with the Government of Nagaland under the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, and expressed optimism that Chozuba would soon be developed at par with other regions. He also asked the departments to leave a legacy of development in honour of their visit to Chozuba for the DPDB.

He pointed out the challenges faced by citizens due to epidemics and other swine diseases causing a great loss to the farmers and called upon the Veterinary Department to take action and help the farmers.

He also pointed out the huge potential that Phek district possesses in Fisheries, Horticulture, Industries and Commerce, besides Khadi and Village Industries sectors, which can greatly impact the lives of the people and boost the economy considering the close proximity to the state capital and good roads.

Reiterating that public office holders and government officials have a huge responsibility endowed upon them, he called for efforts to execute their responsibilities to impact the people and leave a legacy for posterity.

Additionally, Khamo also sought cooperation and support from civil societies and citizens to ensure the cleanliness drive becomes a success, adding that at the year-end there will be rewards.

Meanwhile, MLA Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu expressed delight that the DPDB meeting was being held in Chozuba for the first time. Commending the presence of officers, he encouraged them to maintain the same commitment in their places of posting.

Touching on the recent political realignment leading to a full-fledged Naga People’s Front (NPF) government, Nienu said it was a necessary step to defend the rights, identity, culture, and political ideology of the Nagas. He assured to serve the people with love, honesty, transparency, and accountability.

Dr Dianna Patton, ADC Chozuba, also placed on record that since the upgradation of the ADC Headquarters at Chozuba Town in 2009, it was for the first time that a DPDB meeting was held at Chozuba.

During the meeting, the agenda for the upgradation of GHS Chetheba to GHSS Chetheba was recommended, considering the presence of a good number of students from feeder schools. For the new school building construction for GHSS Chozuba, the house agreed to recommend it.

Meanwhile, the house recommended the upgradation of JE (Power) to SDO (Power) Chozuba, and also the upgradation of Executive Engineer (R&B) to Superintending Engineer (SE) Phek, and SDO (R&B) to EE (R&B) Chozuba.

The meeting was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner of Phek, Rhosietho Nyuthe. During the meeting, the Water Resources, PWD (Mechanical Engineering), and Excise departments gave presentations.
