KVIC committed to globalize Khadi, create sustainable employment opportunities in Nagaland: KVIC Chairman

Manoj Kumar, Chaiman of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) visited Dimapur, Nagaland on 1st March 2024 where he asserted that the Commission is committed to globalize Khadi and also create sustainable employment opportunities even in the remote areas of Nagaland State as per the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

During a programme held at Ao Senden Riju, Near ISBT, Purana Bazar, Dimapur, he also distributed machinery and equipment to the artisans of the Gramodyog Vikas Yojana. The machinery included 100 Electric Pottery Wheels, 20 Agarbatti pedal operated machinery, 20 Handmade & Dona Making machinery and equipment, a report from PIB Kohima stated.

In his address, the Chairman of KVIC expressed happiness that the sector has witnessed significant growth by turnover surpassing Rs. 1.34 Lakh Crore and generating over 9.50 Lakh new jobs in the last nine years and said that it is a testament to the Government’s commitment to the welfare of Khadi artisans.

Manoj Kumar asserted that KVI Sector aim to save traditional industries in rural areas and improve the livelihoods of poor artisans, including Tribes, Hilly Areas, particularly SC/ST and Women and maintained that these artisans are experiencing a notable transition, with increased livelihoods and employment aligning with the Government’s strong dedication for the well-being of Khadi artisans to empower the masses aligning with “Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra”.

He further opined that Khadi has become a symbol of “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” and KVIC has been continuously working on the vision of Prime Minister to create sustainable employment opportunities even in the remote areas of Nagaland State.

The Chairman of KVIC stated that KVIC in Nagaland plays significant role for achieving these targets. As on 31st December 2023 Khadi Institutions in Nagaland State achieved growth, with the Production of Rs.0.65 Crore and Sales of Rs. 0.47 Crores by providing employment to the 60 artisans

He highlighted that the Prime Minister’s vision for Khadi extends far beyond fabric, weaving a future of self-reliance for local artisans and entrepreneurs through initiatives like MMDA; KRDP, Work-Shed, etc. “Khadi is not just thriving, but generating substantial employment and economic empowerment,” he emphasized and further asserted that the commitment of KVIC to globalize Khadi ensures that this emblem of national pride will continue to be woven into a brighter future for generations to come.

Manoj Kumar also visited Nagaland Khadi and Village Industries Sangh at Bramha Camp known for muga silk.

The event was attended by Chairman (NKVIB), Government officials of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Industries & Commerce, KVIC & State KVIB, along with artisans.
