Lakshman Prasad Acharya was sworn in as the Governor of Manipur on Wednesday, a day after he took charge as Governor of Assam.
In a ceremony at the Raj Bhavan in Imphal, Acharya was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Chief Justice Siddharth Mridul of the Manipur High Court. He replaces Anusuiya Uikey and is the 19th Governor of the State.
After taking the oath, Governor Acharya received a Rashtriya Salute and inspected a Guard of Honour accorded by Manipur Rifles and India Reserve Battalion. On the occasion, Acharya expressed happiness at being in Manipur, praised its natural beauty, and prayed for swift restoration of peace. He also urged people to cooperate for the state’s peace and prosperity and extended his greetings to the people of Manipur.
The ceremony was attended by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, Speaker Th. Satyabrata Singh, Ministers, former Chief Ministers, MLAs, and senior officials.
Earlier on Wednesday, Lakshman Prasad Acharya was sworn in as the 32nd Governor of Assam in Guwahati. The oath of office to the new Governor was administered by Chief Justice Gauhati High Court Justice Vijay Bishnoi.
Acharya replaces Gulab Chand Kataria who has been made Governor of Punjab. Acharya was earlier the Governor of Sikkim.
