Lalduhoma, founder and president of Zoram Nationalist Party (ZNP), will be sworn in as Mizoram’s new Chief Minister on 8th December 2023. The 74-year-old ex-cop on Wednesday called on the Governor of Mizoram Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati and staked claim to form government.
“I appointed him as Chief Minister and invited him to form the Government,” the Governor said in a post on X. He also informed that the swearing-in ceremony is fixed on Friday at 11:00 am.
Lalduhoma and his party secured 27 of the total 40 Assembly seats in the recently held elections in Mizoram ousting Zoramthanga and his party Mizo National Front (MNF) who could manage to win just 10 seats.
Zoramthanga called on the Governor on 4th December 2023 to hand his resignation as chief minister. A day later, the three-time CM, taking moral responsibility for the landslide loss of the party, resigned as MNF’s President after 33 years of leading the party.
