The recently constructed football ground funded by Khelo India, at Lakhuti Village under 39 A/C, Wokha District is the latest casualty of a landslide which occurred in the early hours of July 22.
The football ground was inaugurated last year on December 16,2023 in Lakhuti Village costing about 5 crores.
The retaining wall and gallery collapsed in the landslide, severely affecting the newly completed site. Doubts has also been raised over the structural integrity and safety of the site.

Mhonthung Yanthan, Chairman Lakhuti Village Council expressed concern over the houses located above the football ground which might be affected due to the impending threat of mudslides.
A road leading to Aitepyong, located approximately 1000 meters from the site, has been affected by landslide as well, informed Yanthan.
Meanwhile, Contractor K.N. Mhonthung Lotha has expressed regret upon the unfortunate landslide which has damaged the gallery and retaining wall at ground level. The contractor assured to undertake necessary steps in mitigating the affected areas wherever needed once the monsoon season gets over.
Pukha Lam, Aitepyong EAC conducted an on-site inspection to assess the extent of the damage. It has been informed that findings of the inspection has been forwarded to relevant authorities for further evaluation and necessary action.
