Incessant rainfall has wreaked havoc in Lazami village under the Pughoboto sub-division, causing a landslide on September 30 in cultivated lands which has created a gully between Mishilimi and Lazami.

According to P. Saluvi Swu, GB of Lazami Village,  the massive landslide has adversely affected several villagers as their paddy fields were completely destroyed by the landslide.

About one Bigha of paddy field has been damaged by the landslide. While no household was affected, the GB informed that the paddy field huts has been destroyed. “Even the remaining food grains cannot be harvested due to water logging and continuous landslide,” informed the Swu.

Speaking to Nagaland Tribune, Swu mentioned that Lazami villagers were “just on the verge of harvesting their yearly crops, when the paddy fields were completely washed away by the landslide”.

The mudslide had already occurred in the month of August affecting minor portions of the fields, said Swu, when the cultivators went to clear the fields and prepare for harvesting. However, due to excessive rainfall in the past weeks, the entire field has been submerged by the landslide.

The GB also informed Nagaland Tribune that the concerned authorities have been apprised of the situation and further requests have been made to look into the matter at the earliest.
