Landslide in Wokha Village ‘B’ Khel damages two houses

A landslide which occurred on July 15 at Wokha Village ‘B’ Khel has destroyed two houses. The landslide is said to have happened around 5 am near APMC Wokha Village, above the NH-2 road construction area.

The disaster completely damaged a building owned by one Mhonyamo Murry while causing minor damages to the residence of Thungjamo Murry. Mhonyamo Murry’s building suffered severe damages, compelling the family to evacuate by the evening of July 14.

It has been reported that the TTC Infra, the company of the ongoing road construction, is assisting in removing the debris. Sanjay, site in-charge, and Ajay, General Manager, informed about the additional efforts undertaken by the company to clear the debris and assist with the damage, despite work exceeding their designated responsibilities. The duo assured commitment to utilise the machinery for the smooth progression of the road construction, and further urged for cooperation from the local residents.

Meanwhile, Mhonyamo Murry updated that the relevant department and the district administration of Wokha visited the damaged site. The NDRF, Kohima has further advised residents living above the landslide to vacate their homes to prevent casualties and ensure their safety.

Mention maybe made that the ongoing road construction at NH2 Wokha is being undertaken in a landslide-prone area. Where retaining and protection walls are currently being constructed by the road construction companies.
