Amenba Yaden, MLA, was the chief guest of the inaugural session on 9 January.

The Langpangkong Kaketshir Mungdang (LKM) – the Langpangkong Students Union – is commemorating 75 years of existence this year.

To mark the jubilee, a five-day celebration which includes the 33rd Sports Meet commenced on 9 January at Chuchuyimlang village, Mokokchung.

Held under the theme ‘Terangrang Lensar’ (Dynamic Pioneers), the jubilee celebration and the Sports Meet will run from 9 to 13 January.

Amenba Yaden, MLA, Government of Nagaland graced the inaugural session on Monday as the chief guest. Dr Sentitula Pongen, IFS, Divisional Forest Officer, Mokokchung was the theme speaker.

In his speech, MLA Yaden said the jubilee celebration with the theme of Dynamic Pioneers is greatly suited with the current scenario.

The LKM has faced a milestone in attaining this jubilee and it has been a leading torch bearer for the youths and the people as a whole who have worked tirelessly in dynamic environments, he stated.

Yaden added that the LKM has taken active participation and brought the people to the forefront in all kinds of ways.

With the advancement of the world, Yaden opined that the LKM, not forgetting the good deeds of the past, should once again equip one another to progress further adapting to the current needs and promote one’s culture.

In order to achieve greater heights in the coming days, there is need to encourage each other, he said.

Taking the example of the Jamaican writer Marcus Garvey’s famously written quote: “A people without knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots”, Yaden encouraged the youths to reflect upon their life and to embrace and preserve their cultural heritage and identity.

In a world of high technology with the media playing the key role of people’s lives, Yaden said the youths will have better knowledge and information of the present world. However, without the knowledge of cultural identity, he said they would be like a tree without roots.

The MLA also said the Naga political issue not being resolved on time has affected the economy and hampered the scope of employment rate for the youths in the state. He added that the election topic was halted as the people waited for development in the Naga Political talk, but with no clearance to its solution, the election is likely to take place.

Stating that a picture of disintegration is evident with some parts of the state wanting a separate state, Yaden encouraged the people gathered to embrace, support and encourage each other to work hand in hand.

Earlier in the programme, greeting messages were delivered by Alemsashi, president of Jangpetkong Kaketshir Telongjem Mungdang; Imlisunep, president of Tzurangkong Kaketshir Mungdang; and Watinungsang, president of Japukong Kaketshir Mungdang.

Y Anungla Lemtur, president of Langpangkong Watsü Telongjem and C Yabang Pongen, president of Langpangkong Senso Telongjem Dimapur gave brief exhortations.
