The opening ceremony of the two day 54th Tenyidie Annual Seminar was held at Ura Academy, Kohima on May 30. This year the Seminar was held under the theme “Language: The root of our existence.”
Dr. Visier Sanyü emphasized the indispensable role of language in nation-building, stating that it serves as the bedrock of civilization. “Language acts as the cohesive force binding societies together, playing a crucial role in shaping national identity. It evolves in response to changing needs and circumstances,” said Sanyü
While acknowledging the complexity of language, Sanyü highlighted its inherent power as a tool for communication. He cautioned against extreme purism in language, noting that when a language becomes overly rigid and exclusive, it can ultimately fade away.
He also appreciated Dr. Shiirhozelie Liezietsu for his efforts in preserving the Tenyidie language and underscored the significance of keeping Tenyidie alive. He asserted that if language is indeed the cornerstone of nation-building, then Tenyidie should serve as the foundation for fostering a stronger Tenyimia Community.
